Thornton Oliver Keller has managed Lockaway Storage located at 5246 Chinden Boulevard for over ten years. A recent marketing campaign instituted by on-site manager took the property to 100% occupancy. Ben Shalz, property manager, says the feat was accomplished through the consistent marketing and exemplary customer service delivered by onsite facility managers Linda and Bernie VanDiest who were hired eighteen months ago.
The occupancy of Lockaway Storage was at 74% when Linda instituted a marketing campaign targeting commercial businesses and apartments in the nearby area. Linda set about personally visiting with the neighboring business owners to discuss their storage needs thereby increasing awareness of the facility and directly leading to the increase of occupancy for the first time in ten years from 74% to 100%. Simultaneously, the VanDiest efforts have raised referrals 200%!
Ben and owner Barry Raber are very impressed with Linda’s keen sense of customer requirements. Linda is constantly in contact with her customers in order to satisfy their needs and her efforts have been instrumental in building a successful business.

Thornton Oliver Keller, AMO® will be recognized for its sustainable and energy efficient practices in the commercial real estate industry. Boise Mayor, Dave Bieter, will present the EnviroGuard Award to members from Thornton Oliver Keller at a press conference to be held October 21st at 11:00 am at the Boise Watershed.
The company uses benchmarking techniques to track the performance for buildings in their 4.5 million SF commercial real estate portfolio. Buildings are rated on an energy efficiency scale; those that qualify can be commissioned as Energy Star rated. For those buildings that do not qualify, an individual plan is created to address and improve energy efficiency.
In 2008, Thornton Oliver Keller remodeled their office space paying close attention to lighting and other energy efficiencies, waste reduction and reuse, and environmentally-friendly materials and finishes.
• Lighting upgrades have saved the company nearly $250 and conserved 3,560 kilowatts of electricity. The return on investment for this project is less than three years.
• Whenever possible, materials such as casework, flooring, trim, furniture, lighting other finishes were reused. Of the discards, 92% of the waste stream was diverted from the landfill.
• New materials and finishes were selected based on their environmental performance. For example, FSC certified woods, Green-guard certified fixtures, recycled content and/or recyclable flooring and surfaces, and no or low-VOC paints, coatings, and adhesives were used.
Thornton Oliver Keller extended their green mission into the community by hosting an electronics recycling collection event on Earth Day 2009. Approximately 10,000 pounds of electronics were collected and recycled.
